Position Summary
Under general supervision an intermediate level position that assists with the maintenance of assigned building locations and provides support carrying out duties in various functional areas such as: painting, carpentry, plumbing, and moving furniture, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of computer technology to access, read, and interpret data generated by the energy management system and maintain records/generate reports. Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, push, lift, dig, haul, pull, reach, carry, grasp, squat or stoop, bend and twist the body while performing essential duties, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk or hear. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.


Minimum Knowledge and Experience
Graduation from high school plus three years of experience in building maintenance. Experience and qualifications for this type of position includes an emphasis on commercial and institutional setting. Working knowledge of at least two trade areas. Requires a valid driver’s license. May be required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. ***Will be subject to a criminal background check.  Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.***

Additional/preferred skills: Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.  Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.  Records maintenance skills. Performs carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window replacement, cabinet and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation; paints interior and exterior finishes, as appropriate. May assist in maintaining water treatment and storage system; perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks &/or repair kitchen equipment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform a wide variety of general building maintenance repairs and services. Assists with various tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and additional duties as required. Reads blue prints, schematics, and technical manuals; performing repairs and installation activities. Assists minor plumbing functions: installs and repairs flush units for urinals and toilets, flush valves faucets leaks, clogged drains and sewers, repair sinks and commodes, etc. Performs painting functions such as taping, bedding, sanding, and texturing structures. Ensure safe working conditions and the maintenance of all MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) on file on all hazardous materials. Maintains a professional courteous manner with all students, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees. Provides recommendations for the requisition of supplies, parts, equipment and other related items. Provide backup assistance for other areas in the individual’s absence. Performs other duties as assigned.
