Position Summary

Responsible for the provision of counseling services for students, including personal counseling, crisis intervention, assessment and referral, as well as faculty consultations. The professional counselor assists with developing and implementing college-wide counseling programs.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Exceptional communication oral and written skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Oral and written communication skills to interact with persons from diverse backgrounds. The ability to provide quality customer service.

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, sociology, social work, or an equivalent field at a regionally accredited four year college or university plus two years of experience providing individual and/or group counseling for a caseload of clients.  Licensure as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, or psychologist from a state or national certifying association.  Official transcripts/certifications will be required.  *** Will be subject to a criminal background check.  Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check. ***

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide personal counseling services to currently enrolled students.  Provide crisis counseling when necessary.  Consult with faculty regarding student concerns.  Publicize counseling services.  Provide programs for specialized needs individually or in groups.  Collaborate with faculty and staff on appropriate classroom presentations.  Maintain licensure for professional counseling.  Maintain legal and ethical standards as regulated by state licensure and DCCCD.  Pursue professional development through seminars and other appropriate activities to enhance counseling services.  Maintain current referral resources.  Demonstrate ability to work with a diverse student population.  Demonstrate ability to work within a collegial environment along with faculty, administrators, and staff.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills / Additional Requirements:

2-3 years of experience in higher education counseling environment, especially community college setting.
Skills in provision of wellness education, group counseling, and/or outreach event programming.
Fully licensed to work independently as a mental health professional.
Work hours will require one evening, minimum, per week; 5:00-7:00pm.
